I began my working career as a summer intern janitor in a small commercial printing company start-up. Thirty-three years later I left the company after leading its growth and development to become a major magazine printing company with annual sales of nearly $30 million and well over 200 employees. My experience taught me that while investments in continuous improvement programs and the best hardware and software were important to success, the most important investment required for sustained success was providing a healthy and supportive working environment for all employees.
